Orthodontics Guide

What to Expect During Orthodontic Treatment?

Active orthodontic treatment proceeds in stages and requires consistent monitoring by Dr. Badawi. Appointments vary in length depending upon the stage of your treatment and the amount of adjustments your appliance requires.

After the initial consultation appointment and your decision to begin orthodontic treatment, your first appointment will be your bonding appointment. This is likely to be the longest appointment of the process and will consist of the orthodontist placing brackets/attachments on your teeth at a precise location. Orthodontic wires or aligners will then be fitted to initiate the mechanics of your tooth movement. We will then review how to take care of your braces/aligners, oral hygiene techniques, elastics, and any diet modifications.

Following your initial orthodontic bracketing/bonding, subsequent visits will generally consist of the following:

  • An overall assessment of your oral health and progress of orthodontic treatment
  • Performing necessary adjustments or wire changes
  • Addressing any questions you may have about your braces, aligners, or elastics
  • Planning and scheduling your next visit.

We are confident that our highly qualified team will make your experience fun and straightforward. Our goal is to provide you with specialized orthodontic care in a compassionate and fun environment!

Elastic Instructions

Orthodontic elastics are worn to achieve a good upper and lower jaw relationship. Elastics work by putting pressure on your teeth in various directions. They must be worn as instructed or your orthodontic treatment may be compromised and will take longer.

  1. Wear your elastics twenty-four hours a day, unless instructed otherwise.
  2. Remove your elastics only to eat and brush your teeth, replace with new elastics when possible.
  3. Please stop by the office to get more elastics if you lose them or run out.
  4. Forgetting to wear elastics can cause a setback in progress and result in wearing your braces and elastics longer!
