Profile

Dr. Badawi is an accomplished clinician, researcher, speaker, and subject matter expert with broad, in-depth, and hands-on experience in many verticals within the orthodontic space, including technology applications in clinical practice, clinical research, biomechanics, bioinformatics, intellectual property, software development, and clinical data sciences. He led the development of a Computer Assisted Clinical Documentation tool (CACD) for the creation of accurate electronic health records of complex clinical interventions. As an inventor with significant intellectual property and a proven track record, Dr. Badawi has hands-on experience and an in-depth understanding of various aspects of healthcare research, R&D, technical, commercial, and clinical areas. Most recently, he developed and implemented a novel biomechanical orthodontic clinical method, Minimally Invasive Aligner Protocols, in clinical practice.

Driven by an interest in precision mechanical systems interacting with the human body, Dr. Badawi, as a new graduate dentist, was particularly interested in the complex mechanical systems used in orthodontic clinical applications and how these mechanical assemblies interface with human biological systems. Therefore, he chose orthodontics as his career of choice within healthcare. He completed his BDS at Jordan University of Science and Technology, MSc at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London, and the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He was an assistant professor at the University of Manitoba before moving on to his Ph.D. at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.

Dr. Badawi built and continues to maintain a busy private practice in Calgary, Alberta. He held a Clinical Associate Professor position at the University of Alberta, where he continued his orthodontic biomechanics research work in addition to graduate-level clinical supervision and instruction. During his time at the University of Alberta, first as a Ph.D. resident and then as a part-time associate professor, he led the development of the orthodontic biomechanics lab, including a number of in vitro novel biomechanics research devices. Dr. Badawi is active in the field of three-dimensional biomechanics R&D and clinical data operations. His research interests include reverse engineering of complex biomechanical systems, 3D visualizations of clinical records, clinical trial investigation, and quantitative and qualitative assessment of outcomes of clinical interventions.

In his clinical practice, Dr. Badawi relies on precision clinical data to efficiently perform his clinical techniques. He employs his knowledge in 3D orthodontic biomechanics to customize his mechanics, providing his patients with the most efficient data-driven orthodontic force delivery systems to offer the least invasive and most efficient treatment modality.
