Children between the ages of 6-10 who require orthodontic treatment will be given what we call phase 1 treatment. Phase 1 treatment is a proactive approach that is taken to address certain orthodontic that may become more severe with growth. Phase 1 treatment is typically initiated to correct issues such as severe crowding and bite discrepancies. It should be noted that phase 1 treatment is not necessary for all children.
Your first step is to book a consultation at our office for your child. Our team will take clinical records, overview the course of your treatment, and let you know what you can expect.
Following this, we would then take an intraoral scan using a 3D scanner. A 3D Intraoral scanner allows us to capture a three-dimensional digital model of the inside of your childβs mouth. This 3D file will then be uploaded to a specialized treatment planning solution, where Dr. Badawi will create a highly optimized custom movement plan. When the movement plan has been created, our lab technicians will fabricate your aligners, and have them ready for delivery within one week of the records being captured.
The duration of your child's treatment is entirely dependent on the complexity of their case. We typically expect our patients to be treated anywhere between 9-18 months. Treatment duration is also subject to how compliant the patient is with the aligners.
When your child receives their trays, they will be instructed to wear them in sequential order. Every two weeks you will switch to a new aligner. It is extremely important that they wear the aligners for at least 20-22 hours per day. They may remove the trays when eating and drinking, however.
At Smile Elements, our philosophy is to provide a small number of hyper-optimized aligners to all our patients. Over the course of the treatment, the aligners will provide gentle yet constant force, and your childβs teeth will shift into ideal position. Each of our aligners are custom built to incrementally progress towards a perfect smile.
Contrary to popular belief, clear aligners are more capable in resolving dental malocclusion compared to metal braces. With clear aligners, we are able to more accurately map out the movement of each tooth, resulting in more predictable movements, and better-quality outcomes in shorter time frames.
